Dry Eye Syndrome affects approximately 20 percent of the adult population. Typical symptoms include dryness, grittiness, irritation, burning, and even sometimes excess watering of the eyes. It is a common disorder of the tear film that results in decreased tear production and/or excessive tear evaporation. Dry eye syndrome is commonly associated with a systemic inflammatory process and like most eye disease, it is often related to health conditions in the rest of the body.
